Australia, Indonesia to fully resume defence co-operation after training materials row

Canberra and Jakarta have agreed to restore military co-operation between the two countries including personnel exchanges and training activities, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull confirmed in a joint statement with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on 26 February.

The statement was issued as part of a state visit by the Indonesian president who was in Sydney from 25 February to 26 February.

Defence ties between the two neighbouring countries were suspended in early 2017 after the Indonesian Armed Forces' (Tentara Nasional Indonesia: TNI) head of communications, Major General Wuryantyo, announced on 4 January that the service was halting all activities with their Australian counterparts.
